I Don't Want Longer Penis - I Just Want Straight Penis

Peyronie's Question - Can I Use Traction Device for my penis curvature?

I have mild peyronies (30 degrees to the left). It causes no discomfort. It's just a cosmetic thing for me.

My wife isn't at all bothered by it, but she also has no objection to my remedying it. She would, however, really prefer that my penis not get longer or wider to any significant degree.

Flaccid vs erect penis

While I do know that if one eliminates curvature there will be a slight increase in length from end to end (seems to me only a quarter inch in my case), I have a question about the traction devices and their potential in general for increasing size.

If using the traction device for the purposes of correcting curvature only, is further lengthening a likely "fringe benefit" of the treatment, and by that I mean lengthening beyond that which comes merely from eliminating curvature (the quarter inch mentioned above)? In other words, could I end up with a lengthening beyond that quarter inch?

Most guy would be thrilled with such a "fringe benefit," but I would want to avoid it. (I'm assuming that the increase in girth could only come from pumps, and so would not apply here)

Thanks, J

My Peyronie's Answer

Dear J

Traction devices do lengthen the penis if used for extended period of time. That's just how traction works (think of long neck Kayan women in Burma).

When using traction device to try to correct penile curvature, it is recommended to wear the device for up to 8 hours per day for few months for best results.

With this usage you can realistically expect between 0.5 – 1 cm in penile length per month of use. Using penis traction device for 6 - 10 hours daily for 3 - 6 months could result in increased penile length by 1 - 2 inches (2.5 – 5 cm). You can also expect some increase in the girth.

So it will depend on how long you need to use the device to reduce the curvature on how much increase in penis length and girth you can expect.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Follow Up Question

Dear Birgir,

Thank you for your kind and prompt response. Thank you also for doing this remarkable service! You are helping a lot of men and women.

I'm sorry to ask for more time, but, I guess this leads to a couple more questions.

1) How long should I expect it will take to correct 30 degrees of curvature then?

2) Do the size gains recede to a degree after discontinuing use of the device?

Thanks, J

Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated. And always great to get numbered questions :-)

1. There is no way for me to answer this. First of all there are no guarantees that traction works for everyone (to reduce curvature, it always works on the lengthening). However, it has helped many, me included. Based on my experience through my website and personally and my research, traction seems to work best for men with mild or moderate curvature (like yours) and those in the early stage of the disease (acute phase which usually lasts 12-18 months). Saying that it has also worked for many with more severe curvature and men in the stable phase. In general traction works well BUT still no one should say it is guaranteed to work. But as safe, non-invasive and cheap (compared to other treatment options) in my opinion worth trying in most cases (little lost but potentially lot to gain… pun intended).

Another thing to consider is what acceptable result is. Not all men use traction device to get totally rid of the curve (most in the medical profession define curvature up to 10 degree as straight penis). Men with moderate / severe curvature may be satisfied to get the penis straight enough to live satisfying sex life, i.e. to avoid risky and expensive penis surgery. Those aiming for total reduction need to wear it longer than those only looking to get the curvature down some X degrees. Hope make sense!

2. The size gain is permanent.

I wish you all the best with whatever decision you come to.

Kind regards,

Follow Up Question

Hello Birgir,

Thank you for your response. I'm glad to learn about traction, not only for myself, but for men in general, including those who are only looking for increased size.

One more question. In your response yesterday you said to expect 1 to 2 inches increase in length if using for 6 to 10 hours a day for 3 to 6 months. Where does that figure come from? I looked at an NIH article that reviewed various traction device studies all of which showed much more modest outcomes, i.e. around 1 to 2 centimeters after roughly 3 to 6 months of use. Is this article missing some studies?

Thank you, J

There are many studies available with different results. Those selling penis enlargement products like to quote those showing the most results while the medical sites tend to take the more conservative look.

To compare like to like what matters is the time (number of weeks) and not least the hours per day that the device is used, i.e. less daily hours, you can expect less results and vice versa. Also, some studies talk about different length measurements, i.e. flaccid, stretched and erect penis. Finally, it also matters how the penis length is measured.

1 – 2 inches was kind of mid range for number of studies at time, i.e. based on heavy use (8 hours per day minimum) as that is recommended / required for curvature correction. Men can expect better results by using traction devices for more hours and shorter period (say 8 hours for 6 months) than fewer hours for longer periods (say 4 hours for 12 months). That applies for both curvature correction as well as penile lengthening.

Andropenis website promotes "increase penis length by 4 cm or 1.6 inches" while the Andromedical website contains PDF document that contains number of studies that Andromedical has put together.

If you study those you can see that the increase, hours, weeks, etc. varies but the bottom line is… all show increase in the length. So if you definitely don't want any increase then you better stay away from traction. If you can live with some lengthening but not too much then you can use the device for fewer hours per day… however, that will also result in slower / less curvature correction.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
